2-Sided Transition
Conceptual Break
with Brent Tipton

The transition offense that goes against EVERYTHING transition defense is designed to stop!

A Conceptual Fast Break System Designed To:
Create Space
Create Advantage
Leverage Advantages Into Points

Hey Coach-

Are you looking for a modern transition offense that:

  • Plays conceptual basketball in transition
  • Takes advantage of natural transition defense weaknesses
  • Creates advantages and leverages advantages into points
  • Keeps defenses on their heels and in disadvantaged situations
  • Creates high % shots in the first 6-8 seconds of transition (when defenses are most vulnerable)
  • Scores more points!!!

Take a look at a new style of playing in transition...2-Sided Transition!

Why 2-Sided Transition?

When most people think of transition offenses they think

  • Running Lanes
  • Sideline Break
  • Numbered Break

The problem is, transition defenses are designed to stop these transition offenses. Transition defenses want to:

  • Stop the ball
  • Flow to the ball side
  • Take away the sideline
  • Retreat to the paint to protect the basket

By running typical transition offenses, you are actually playing right into the hand of the defense!

Conceptual 2-Sided Transition takes typical transition defense philosophy and makes it work AGAINST them....that is the true beauty of this conceptual fast break system!

Three Keys Of 2-Sided Transition

While Coach Tipton shares all of the finer points of how to run and implement the 2-Sided Break, there are three keys that he emphasizes throughout the program.

  1. Create Space Before Advantage → Advantage Before Shot

The first goal of the 2-Sided Transition is to teach players how to create and LEVERAGE great spacing into an open shot in the first 6-8 seconds of transition. The spacing of 2-Sided Transition is unique and a crucial element to its success!

  2. Move Transition Defense Twice

2-Sided Transition is designed to move the defense twice in the first few seconds of the possession (and sometimes 3 times!) By shifting which side of the court the ball is on, it causes disarray for the transition defense as they work to reestablish proper defensive positioning each time the ball switches sides of the court.

This is also crucial to the creation of "got 2 defenders" and "off balance defenders (OBD)" that Coach Tipton's break is designed to attack.

  3. Concept Of Corner Spacing

The corner is the last spot defended in transition defense, and by using the power of the 1 More pass from spacing concepts taught, there will be a high number of wide-open catch and shoot 3's from the corner with this system.

Coach Tipton shows you all of the tricks to make sure you have proper Corner Spacing and how to use it effectively.

Transition Offense Gets A Facelift

What does it mean to run a modern conceptual transition break? It basically means there are no set patterns and no easy way for defenses to prepare for what they are about to witness.

2-Sided Transition is slowly making its way to more and more basketball teams because of the free-flowing style. From the Houston Rockets on down to the youth level. It is empowering basketball players on the court to make reads and play with freedom.

In this conceptual break, players learn to:

  • Play at a fast pace
  • Make high IQ reads
  • Create stretch spacing
  • Create space and play in space
  • Leverage advantages into scoring opportunities
  • Score off the small or large advantage they created
  • Make "zero-second" decisions and keep the ball moving

Basically, conceptual transition teaches players how to make the correct transition reads to keep the defense scrambling.

2-Sided Transition is almost impossible to scout. It is extremely aggressive and keeps defenses on their heels!

Great Concepts Taught By A Great Teacher = Great Results

No matter what you do offensively, the concepts Coach Tipton teaches are beneficial to all coaches of all levels. And these concepts allow for more player freedom.

A few of the offensive concepts Coach Tipton teaches you how to use and take advantage of in 2-Sided Transition include:

  • The Power Of One More

Ultimately 2-Sided Transition creates a simple and effective scoring advantage for the offense. It creates situations where you have 2 offensive players being guarded by one defender. As the defender closes out to the ball, you have the Power Of One More to a player in the corner with their feet set, ready to shoot.

  • Drive the OBD (Off Balance Defender)

Coach Tipton teaches you how to spot the OBD and the concepts of driving at the OBD to put pressure on the defense.

  • Making Proper Cuts

Players don't naturally know when to cut or what the right cut is. Coach Tipton gives detailed on-court explanations of when they should:

    • See Space Take Space
    • or

    • Skull Cut

  • Push, Pull Concepts

Players learn through drills how to "push" away from the drive or "pull" toward the drive to create better

  • 3 Point, 4 Point, & 5 Point Spacing

This concept keeps players in shot range as well as proper spacing to create 2 separate defensive closeouts.

  • Stretch Spacing & Benefits

The concept of putting the "got 2 defender" in a decision dilemma. Also creating Stretch Spacing when the second player on the 2-Side Sprints & Delays.

  • Getting Offsides

Coach Tipton teaches players when they should cut toward the basket on a break vs. when they should create Corner Spacing.

  • Rim Rules

You learn specific details of when a shot should be taken at the rim and when it should be kicked back out to a player in space.

3 Reasons You'll Score More With 2-Sided Transition

Most coaches are aware that teams usually shoot a higher FG % in transition than in the half-court setting. And their goal is to get a good, quick shot in transition.

But 2-Sided Transition is the only one specifically designed to take advantage of transition defense's weaknesses.

Your transition offense will score more points because...

  1. Your team will move the transition defense 2 times (or 3) each possession. This will create:
    • 2v1 opportunities
    • Long closeouts
    • Off balance defenders
    • Defensive communication stress
  2. Your team will learn to play at pace and hunt the great looks in the first 6-8 seconds of transition....when the defense is most vulnerable.
  3. Your team will play conceptual basketball and learn to make the best read when...
    • Passing
    • Cutting
    • Shooting

Coach Tipton's drills are designed to give players practice they need to make the correct read come game time!

The philosophy is simple. 2-Sided Transition is trying to get a...

  • Key - An early paint touch.
  • Three - Open, stationary, catch and shoot 3.
  • Free - Attacking the OBD and getting to the FT line.

...in the first 6-8 seconds of transition!

Building Blocks Of 2-Sided Transition

Coach Tipton takes you through all 4 focal areas of the 2-Sided Transition along with how to build and drill them.

  • Early & Opposite - Move the ball immediately to opposite side of the floor
  • Early & Up - Push ahead and down the same side of the court
  • Dribble Push - Crossing half-court with the dribble
  • Triggers To Create An Advantage - Creating an immediate advantage when there was no original advantage in transition

Throughout the videos Coach Tiptons shows you how to layer all of these so your team can efficiently execute come game time and win more games!

Coach Tipton knows his stuff! Unbelievable teacher and knowledge of the game!

I wish I'd had access to 2-Sided Transition years ago, I know it would have meant more wins for my team. Love the conceptual philosophy!

Love the fact that we can flow into any offense if we do not get a shot from transition ... .or we can simply use the triggers to create an advantage and play on.
