Man to Man Play: 4 Out Swing Rattle

This play works out of the 4-out, 1-in set so it's great for anyone running that offense. You often get an uncontested drive to the basket or a wide open shot on the wing.

Instructions

diagram 1

1. Players set up in the 4-out, 1-in set. Player 1 starts the play. Player 5 flashes to the ball side elbow. Player 2 cuts along the baseline. 3 rises up from the corner towards the wing. 1 passes to 4.

diagram 2

2. 1 follows their pass to get a handoff from player 4.

diagram 3

3. After taking the handoff, 1 looks to turn the corner and attack the rim. To remove the help defense, 2 sprints in between an elevator screen from 3 & 5. 4 can roll or pop.

diagram 4

4. If the defense jumps the handoff, 4 can fake the handoff and attack the rim. Again, 2 uses the elevator screen as 4 attacks. 4 should keep their back turned to their defender to disguise the handoff.

There is an easier way to present this play and I used it when I coached AAU 7th grade it got me 12 points respectively from doing it to each side. When I coach at the High School level the older kids tend to pick it up quicker but is still a good play. I wouldn't know how to draw it up on here but the number 5 man is the most important man in the play that I run because the play solely rides on his screen

This should also work against a zone. Look at drawing 2 you have an overload situation on the left side. You have 4 offensive players being guarded by 3 defensive players. Depending on how the defense plays the zone either 3 will have 3ptshot if the D3 player goes down to guard O4 or 5 will be left open for the jumper from the free throw line.

I'd like to hear Troy Wyant's version of this.... I think there could be more picks involved too and if player one approaches player two slowly then hooks around him fast I think the play becomes far more superior. As always though, the setup for the screen is crucial.

Hey Thomas if you have two big post players and plenty of speed, anything would work.

This play is exclent. I''m a basketball player and I have a great coach. But my assistant coach is soo annoying and makes you do things that makes him good, he doesn''t understand everyone is diffrent. I have a way that makes me really good at shooting freethrows but he makes me do it his way. I shoot 25%! That is horriable. He just wont understand that he can''t make everyone perfect. His granddaughter is on the team and he tries to make sure she is perfect but it almost like hes tring to mess me up because I''m not trying to brag but I''m the best on the team and he doesn''t like the fact it''s not his granddauter.

Great play for a quick hit. Could work good for our team cause we run a lot of 4 out 1 in sets. Use this a couple of times then you could fake the handoff to the 1 man, clear the 1 to the corner, bump the 4 man to the oppo corner, and have the 5 man set a back screen for the 3 flashing to the goal.

i believe this play would be alot more effective if on your forth option the 5 man would set a pic for the 3 man. this brings his man out of the equater opening it up a lot more. it is also very benoffical if the three man V cuts bringing his man into the 5 man.
