A Fun & Safe Way
To Help Young Kids
Develop Functional Athleticism
For Sports

(For Ages 7 to 12)

It's true!

Sports are a great way to get a child off of the couch and away from TV, computer, and cellphone screens.

But there's a right way, and a wrong way, to prepare a child for recreational and competitive sports.

And I'll let you in on something...

Most parents and coaches are starting their kids off the wrong way!

I'll elaborate on the mistakes they're making...

  1. They're pushing them too hard.
  2. They're putting their physical and mental health in harm's way.
  3. They're getting ahead of themselves by making things complicated too soon.

Before we get into the right way to develop a child's athletic capability…

Allow me to introduce myself…

My name is Cody Roberts, and I’m a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach at the University of Iowa.

In addition to spending 4 years as an athlete at University of Kansas…

I’ve been training blue chip Division I athletes for the last 10 years, including the basketball players at KU and Bradley University…

Helping them reach new levels of speed, strength and athleticism.

And although these are elite athletes, I began to notice a few things about them...

  1. They have limitations with hip rotation.
  2. They lack proper angling capabilities.
  3. They tend to slump over instead of standing up straight and tall on defense most likely due to prolonged screen time at home and school.

And guess what...

These small but important details have a stacking effect on game day.

As a result, we're forced to work on correcting these issues when we should be focused on adding strength and mobility to their athleticism.

But these aren't going to be future problems for your kid, because we're going to prevent them ahead of time.

And we're going to do it with the...

Pyramid Of Youth Development

We can't train a seven-year-old the same way that we train a 16 to 22-year-old.

As you see in the graphic below...

  • Things need to develop sequentially, starting with Basic Movement & Coordination Skills.
  • These things are important to develop first, because they serve as a child's athletic foundation.

Just like large buildings have a strong foundation...

Just like big trees have a massive root system...

The best athletes have a great foundation of basic movements and coordination skills.

  • The next step is to make sure that they're having fun during the process.
  • As Daniel Coyle brilliantly points out in The Talent Code, most professional athletes had coaches prior to the age of 12 that...

    Made. Things. FUN!

And we want to follow in those footsteps.

Sometimes, those coaches weren't knowledgeable in the sport, but they convinced young athletes to participate and continue developing their skills.

  • After the foundation has been laid and the passion has been created, you can move the athlete into the final phase of development- mastering sport-specific skills.
  • And here's the beauty of following this process...

Athletes will be able to master sport-specific skills much FASTER because they worked on developing great general athleticism and coordination first. While having fun during the process.

And it's all covered in...

The Youth Athletic Development Workout Program With Cody Roberts

As a parent, you might be wondering...

What About Coaches?
Isn't Their Training Adequate?

These coaches are eager to train and develop kids, but typically in the United States, they don't possess the background and the understanding for proper athletic development at an early childhood level.

But it's NOT their fault!

And here's why...

  1. They're not educated on youth development and psychology.
  2. Presently, there aren't many other programs readily available that touch on the psychology and physiology of developing athletes in your child's age range.

As a result, I tend to see a lot of athletes deal with unnecessary injuries and muscle imbalances.

It's unfortunate too because it puts limitations on their performance once they come of age.

And for many players, those limitations can be the difference between...

  • Playing time vs. sitting on the bench
  • Starting varsity vs. being stuck on JV
  • Controlling the game vs. feeling outmatched

If you're a coach reading this, you might be wondering...

Will My Players Benefit From This Training?

Absolutely! Because when a child starts young these small, improvements in movement can have an impressive effect over the years.

If you're a Youth Basketball Coach I encourage you to have children warm up with 15 minutes of these exercises prior to practice and games.

And if you're a High School coach, I encourage you to implement some of these things during Summer Camps and Clinics.

After all, the backyard is your personal farming area and nothing beats having athletic kids who are ready for your grooming and development.

Parents Are Thrilled That Kids Are Getting Their Bodies In Motion...

I was looking for some way of encouraging my kids to be more active in the summer, and I finally found it!.

I have two boys ages 7 and 10. They love doing the workouts every day. After the first couple of days, they would remind me they had workouts to do. It is a great feeling knowing that your kids are getting exercise AND they are enjoying doing the workouts. As a parent I appreciate that Cody Roberts has put together a program for younger kids that is age.appropriate and FUN! I also love the wide variety of workouts! If you ask me, every parent needs access to these workouts.....especially in the summer.

PS My 5 year old daughter refuses to be left out of the action and does the workouts along with the "big kids".

Thanks!

As a youth coach I've always known there was an importance to warming-up and cooling down before and after practice, but the exercises we were using were basically just imitating what older teams were doing, and I had no idea if it was even benefitting my players. Now I found something that adds value to my practices and helps my players build an athletic foundation.

I know that by using Cody Roberts Youth Athletic Workouts, my players are getting POSITIVE athletic development that is just right for their age. I know my players are getting great athletic development exercises every practice, and it doesn't take up much practice time. I'm more confident than ever that I am doing the right thing to help my players reach their full athletic development in the future. When possible, I work some of the At-Home workouts into my practice as a "break" since the kids love them!

It's great to have someone who is an expert like Cody Roberts create a product to help younger kids grow athletically in a fun way that builds a foundation for their future! I plan on using these warm-ups and workouts for the other youth sports I coach as well.

One of my favorite things about the workouts is the exercises seem to all be different so the kids are never getting bored.

Coach Cabarcos from A Coruña, None

I coach youth girls from 7 to 12 years old in a basketball club called Montrove, from Oleiros, a small village of less than 40.000 people in the north west corner of our country.

I work full-time as industrial engineer, so basically I coach basketball as a hobby.

I was very concerned about how to approach the physical conditioning and correct development of my girls. Neither my professional formation or even my formation as coach cover that, so I have to find it for myself.

Looking for content related to this, I couldn't find anything really focused on youth basketball players. Then I found the Breakthrough Basketball website, with a lot of content of my interest.

After finding the Youth Athletic Development Program and buying it, I felt impressed. It seemed like the thing I needed. I liked so much the content and how the exercises were organised into routines.

We've started implementing it this preseason, when we usually train at the beach. The girls enjoyed the exercises and I was able to see that, while working hard, we were having fun.

In September, we are going to start training at the court, so I will apply a warm-up routine before starting the session and a cool down routine after finishing. Probably I will apply a hallway warm-up before every game.

Finally, for all of the things explained in this email, I rate the program with five stars. It saved me a lot of time and it seems that we will have very good results after using it during the season.
