Half Court Ball Movement

Home > Coaching > Drills > Team Offense > Half Court Ball Movement
This drill teaches passing and movement. Your players will learn ball reversals and how to attack the paint with a pass.
The drill is played in the half court and involves 10 players, 5 on offense and 5 on defense. Players are not allowed to dribble or move with the ball. They must only pass. Screening is allowed and players without the ball can move freely.
Frame 1
The goal of the drill is not to try and score a basket. The offense scores 1 point by reversing the ball from one side of the court to the other or by passing to a player who has two feet inside the lane. If the defense creates a turnover, they must first pass the ball to a coach and then they become offense.
Frame 2
Drill Variations
  • Add one or two permanent post players
  • Add a shot clock (ex 35 seconds). Once the shot clock gets to 8 seconds, players can dribble and must score before time expires to get their points.
  • Give points for defensive stops.
  • Add motion offense rules (ex: must fill spots, screen after each pass, etc)
