Coaching Shout Out - New School Record for 3 Pointers!

We like to highlight the positives going on in the basketball world, and we saw that one of our very own coaches just broke a school record the other night...

This is Nate Sanderson’s first year as head girls basketball coach at Mt. Vernon.

Last year, prior to Sanderson’s arrival, they finished 1-20.

And in just one year, Sanderson has helped them improve to 10-9!

Well, as of January 31, there was even better news...

Sanderson’s Mustangs set a new school record for 3-point field goals made in a single season.

They have made 142 this year with two regular season games remaining. The previous record was 137 set in 2014-2015.

You might know that Sanderson is a big proponent of using Game-Based Drills in his practices and pre-game warmups so players are ready for any game situation...

In fact, Coach Sanderson says that he uses game-based drills for 90% of his practice and the results speak for themselves!

Congrats to Coach Sanderson and Mustang girls for a great turnaround season!
