Basketball Drills With 1v1 to 3v3 Conversions

In the video below, Coach Chris Oliver explains a new 1v1 drill that improves your scoring skills. Then he shows you how to take this same drill, add more offensive and defense players, and create a 3v3 drill out of the same 1v1 drill.

Also, in case you didn't see it, this is a quick recap from the previous video that explains some of the benefits of doing this. Coach Oliver points out a few more benefits in his video below as well.

By progressing to 2v2 and 3v3, the player has to learn how to attack help defense and learn when it's best to shoot or pass.

And when you don't have the ball, you have learned how to move to open spots or how to position yourself for offensive rebounding. And the defense has to learn how to adapt to these common situations too.

This approach incorporates many random game-like situations but still adds some structure to the game rather than just playing simple 3v3 games with rules.

While the simple 3v3 games are still great, you can now pinpoint specific situations that you want or need to practice more.

Also, by watching Coach Oliver teach in the video, you learn some great ways to improve your team's offense and defense.

The entire video spends over 60 minutes on 1v1 drills and how to convert them to 3v3 drills. There is also over 3 hours on the BDT player development system that Coach Oliver uses.

Additionally, Coach Oliver doesn't just show you the drills. He shows you how to coach and teach within the drills. The drills don't matter if you don't know how to coach!

Coach Oliver was monumental in progressing my coaching abilities as a first year coach. I transitioned out of the private S&C sector into public school coaching. With Coach Oliver’s guidance my team received world class systems instead of a first timer fumbling through the internet for ideas.
